Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)
What is EMDR?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) was developed specifically to help with traumatic memories and post-traumatic stress disorder but can also help with other problems like depression and anxiety and childhood trauma.
EMDR is a psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences.
How does EMDR Help?
Repeated studies show that by using EMDR therapy people can experience the benefits of psychotherapy that once took years to make a difference. It is widely assumed that severe emotional pain requires a long time to heal.
Using the detailed protocols and procedures learned in EMDR therapy training sessions, clinicians help clients activate their natural healing processes.
What does EDMR help Treat?
Efficacy has also been shown for other conditions including depression, anxiety, panic attacks, OCD, phobias, complicated grief, anger, addictions and medically unexplained symptoms.
Gentle but powerful, EMDR does not require a detailed recounting of events. It may have advantages over therapies as it requires fewer sessions or less homework.
